The Azevedo ARU covers 185 hectares of the parish of Campanhã. It borders the river Douro to the south, the river Tinto to the west and the municipality of Gondomar to the north and east.

Since medieval times, this area has been considered a great agricultural reserve and had its first wheat milling factory in 1876. This gave rise to the bakery industry, which supplied the entire city of Porto.

It was also important for farms and manor houses used by noblemen and bourgeois. 

However, over the years this area has become a fragile urban zone in all areas, hence the need to transform it into a desirable area in which to work, study and live.

In 2015, Porto's strategic urban development plan (PEDU) was approved.

In 2023, the plan for new Metro do Porto lines was presented. We would like to highlight the new Dragão - Souto line, which will cover this area.
